Crude Soybean Oil Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average crude soybean oil export price stood at $947 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -13.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 20% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,722 per ton. From January 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Spain ($1,228 per ton) and Belgium ($1,125 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($920 per ton) and Algeria ($930 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (-2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average crude soybean oil import price amounted to $1,560 per ton, with an increase of 22% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 55%. The import price peaked at $1,760 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,074 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,437 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 180K tons of crude soybean oil were exported from Italy; approximately equating the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 144%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 182K tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, crude soybean oil exports surged to $282M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth.
