Dairy Spread Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
The average dairy spread export price stood at $4,771 per ton in 2022, growing by 9.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dairy spread export price increased by +18.3% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 34%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,506 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($4,826 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cook Islands ($557 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+49.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average dairy spread import price stood at $6,520 per ton in May 2023, which is down by -22.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 23% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $9,846 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to May 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($9,424 per ton), while the price for India amounted to $5,956 per ton.
From June 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+0.6%).
Dairy Spread Exports in Australia
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of dairy spreads decreased by -18.3% to 3.2K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 550% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.9K tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, dairy spread exports declined to $15M in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 602% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $17M, and then dropped in the following year.
