Gold Price in Bulgaria (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average gold import price amounted to $67.2M per ton, which is down by -4.3% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $70.2M per ton in May 2023, and then reduced modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($69.0M per ton), while the price for Switzerland ($66.2M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Gold Price in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average gold export price amounted to $21.2M per ton, growing by 110% against the previous month. In general, the export price posted tangible growth. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($45.2M per ton), while the average price for exports to Austria ($3.1M per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Gold Imports in Bulgaria
In 2022, purchases abroad of gold decreased by -36.9% to 706 kg for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 146% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.1 tons, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
In value terms, gold imports reduced remarkably to $34M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 94% against the previous year.

Gold Exports in Bulgaria
In 2022, shipments abroad of gold was finally on the rise to reach 1.6 tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage.
In value terms, gold exports fell rapidly to $20M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt decrease. The smallest decline of -0.8% was in 2020.
