Potato Chips Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average potato chips export price amounted to $4,753 per ton, which is down by -5% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $5,005 per ton in May 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($4,839 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States amounted to $4,739 per ton.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+3.8%).
Potato Chips Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2023
The average potato chips import price stood at $5,283 per ton in June 2023, remaining stable against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,621 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Canada amounted to +9.4% per month.
Potato Chips Exports in Mexico
In 2022, overseas shipments of potato chips decreased by -4.3% to 34K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 36K tons, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
In value terms, potato chips exports surged to $126M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +50.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
