In December 2023, the average import price for cocoa beans; whole or broken, raw or roasteds amounted to $3,384 per ton, flattening at the previous month. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from December 2022 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for cocoa beans; whole or broken, raw or roasteds decreased by -7.1% against September 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 33% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,641 per ton. From October 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Ecuador ($26,308 per ton), while the price for Ghana ($2,368 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+22.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for cocoa beans; whole or broken, raw or roasteds stood at $11,940 per ton in 2022, picking up by 66% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 69% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($16,019 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($4,490 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+32.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
