Sweet Potato Price in Peru (FOB) - 2021
In April 2020, the average sweet potato export price amounted to $429 per ton, shrinking by -41.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2020 when the average export price increased by 147% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $736 per ton, and then declined significantly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In April 2020, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1,787 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($105 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2020 to April 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ecuador (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sweet Potato Price in Peru (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sweet potato import price amounted to $1,763 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sweet potato import price decreased by -33.4% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 46%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,647 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,500 per ton), while the price for China totaled $1,703 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+19.9%).
Sweet Potato Exports in Peru
In 2022, overseas shipments of sweet potatoes decreased by -2.8% to 8.5K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 115%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 11K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sweet potato exports surged to $6.1M in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 121%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $7.3M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Sweet Potato Imports in Peru
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of sweet potatoes decreased by -22.8% to 392 kg in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 504% against the previous year.
In value terms, sweet potato imports reduced sharply to $691 in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 430% against the previous year.
