Wine Price in France (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average wine export price amounted to $10.2 per litre, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $10.4 per litre in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($17.1 per litre), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($4.1 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wine Price in France (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average wine import price amounted to $1.5 per litre, falling by -7.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 70% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3.0 per litre. From November 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3.7 per litre), while the price for Spain ($574 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wine Exports in France

In 2022, approx. 1.4B litres of wine were exported from France; which is down by -4.6% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 7.1%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 1.5B litres, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In value terms, wine exports rose rapidly to $13.9B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

Wine Imports in France

In 2022, supplies from abroad of wine was finally on the rise to reach 619M litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible decline. Imports peaked at 710M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wine imports skyrocketed to $1.1B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
