Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, NPK fertilizer exports contracted slightly to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Morocco prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - South Africa (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Senegal (X tons), Mali (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.
Exports from Morocco increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Zambia (X%), Mozambique (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%), Kenya (X%) and Senegal (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zambia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Mali (X%) and South Africa (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Morocco, Cote d'Ivoire, Zambia and Mozambique increased by X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Morocco ($X) remains the largest NPK fertilizer supplier in Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Zambia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cote d'Ivoire, with a X% share.

In 2023, npk fertilizer imports in Africa dropped to X tons, falling by X% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2023, Togo (X tons), distantly followed by Burkina Faso (X tons), Ghana (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Cote d'Ivoire (X tons), Kenya (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) represented the largest importers of mixed nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium (NPK) fertilizers, together creating X% of total imports. Tanzania (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Mali (X tons), Zambia (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Angola (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Togo (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest NPK fertilizer importing markets in Africa were Burkina Faso ($X), Ghana ($X) and Malawi ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Egypt, Togo, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria, Algeria, Mali and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
