In value terms, nitrogen exports soared to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2023, South Africa (X cubic meters) was the major exporter of nitrogen, committing X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X cubic meters), making up a X% share of total exports. Zimbabwe (X cubic meters) and Cote d'Ivoire (X cubic meters) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Zimbabwe (X%), Cote d'Ivoire (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Zimbabwe emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The following importers - Senegal (X cubic meters), Mali (X cubic meters), Guinea (X cubic meters), Angola (X cubic meters) and Algeria (X cubic meters) - together made up X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to nitrogen imports into South Africa stood at X%. At the same time, Senegal (X%), Guinea (X%), Mali (X%), Zambia (X%), Mozambique (X%), Kenya (X%), Ghana (X%) and Egypt (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Senegal emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Angola experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Algeria (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mozambique (X p.p.), Kenya (X p.p.), Egypt (X p.p.), Zambia (X p.p.), Ghana (X p.p.), Senegal (X p.p.), Mali (X p.p.) and Guinea (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Algeria (X p.p.) and South Africa (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. In value terms, South Africa ($X), Ghana ($X) and Kenya ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports. Zambia, Mozambique, Angola, Senegal, Algeria, Egypt, Mali and Guinea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

Senegal, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment.
