In 2023, the average yield of carrots and turnips in Central Asia dropped to X tons per ha, with a decrease of X% against the year before. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In value terms, carrot and turnip exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X%). Tajikistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Uzbekistan increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Kazakhstan (X%) and Tajikistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (X p.p.), Kazakhstan (X p.p.) and Tajikistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Kyrgyzstan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) remains the largest carrot and turnip supplier in Central Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an X% share.

In Uzbekistan, carrot and turnip exports increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2023. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kyrgyzstan (X% per year) and Kazakhstan (X% per year).

In 2023, overseas purchases of carrots and turnips decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, carrot and turnip imports contracted notably to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the key importers of carrots and turnips in 2023, finishing at approx. X% and X% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), achieving a X% share of total imports. Mongolia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
