The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fertilizer exports dropped to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports posted tangible growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia was the largest exporter of fertilizers in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), making up a X% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%) and Belarus (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Belarus (X p.p.) significantly weakened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest fertilizer supplier in the CIS, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (X% per year) and Uzbekistan (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, reducing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 an increase of X% against the previous year. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fertilizer imports declined modestly to $X in 2023. In general, imports enjoyed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Kazakhstan (X tons), distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X tons), Moldova (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the key importers of fertilizers, together comprising X% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Moldova ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
