The Israeli MDF market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, picking up by 41% against the previous year. Overall, the total consumption indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. Exports from Israel

In 2021, overseas shipments of MDF increased by 35% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, faced a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, MDF exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Palestine (X cubic meters) was the main destination for MDF exports from Israel, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, MDF exports to Palestine exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ethiopia (X cubic meters), more than tenfold. The United States (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Palestine totaled -16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (-18.5% per year) and the United States (-11.5% per year).

In value terms, Palestine ($X) remains the key foreign market for MDF exports from Israel, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ethiopia ($X), with a 5.9% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 2.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Palestine totaled -16.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ethiopia (-16.6% per year) and the United States (-10.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average MDF export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, rising by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per cubic meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Palestine ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Israel

In 2021, purchases abroad of MDF increased by 28% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, MDF imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +73.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X cubic meters), Romania (X cubic meters) and Turkey (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of MDF imports to Israel, together comprising 55% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +80.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X), Romania ($X) and Belgium ($X) appeared to be the largest MDF suppliers to Israel, together comprising 55% of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, China, Austria, France, Venezuela and the UK, which together accounted for a further 38%.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per cubic meter), while the price for the UK ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
