Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar imports declined to $X in 2023. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2023, Mozambique (X tons), distantly followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Tanzania (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons), Madagascar (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) were the largest importers of concrete reinforcing bars, together constituting X% of total imports. South Africa (X tons) and Malawi (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Democratic Republic of the Congo (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mozambique ($X), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X) and Zimbabwe ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports.
