In 2023, South Africa (X tons) and Zimbabwe (X tons) were the largest exporters of cotton linters in SADC, together accounting for near X% of total exports. Tanzania (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Zambia (X%).

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, the amount of cotton linters imported in SADC contracted markedly to X tons, falling by X% against 2022. In general, imports saw a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cotton linters imports declined rapidly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Mauritius represented the major importer of cotton linters in SADC, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. Angola (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Tanzania (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports.

Mauritius was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cotton linters imports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Tanzania (X%) and Angola (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
