Global production peaked at $18.4B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.
Production By Country
China (120M units) constituted the country with the largest volume of liquid supply meter production, accounting for 36% of total volume. Moreover, liquid supply meter production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United States (22M units), fivefold. Brazil (17M units) ranked third in terms of total production with a 5.2% share.
In China, liquid supply meter production expanded at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: the United States (+0.5% per year) and Brazil (+4.7% per year).
Imports
World Imports of Liquid Supply Or Production Meters
In 2022, the amount of liquid supply or production meters imported worldwide fell dramatically to 47M units, waning by -15.6% compared with the previous year. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 56M units, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, liquid supply meter imports reached $1.5B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Kenya, with a CAGR of +16.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices By Country
The average liquid supply meter import price stood at $32 per unit in 2022, jumping by 32% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($61 per unit), while the Philippines ($6.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

China prevails in exports structure, amounting to 28M units, which was near 52% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Mexico (3.1M units), Italy (2.9M units), France (2.8M units) and Germany (2.8M units), together generating a 21% share of total exports. Turkey (2.1M units), Poland (2M units), Slovakia (1.3M units), Brazil (1.2M units), Malaysia (1.1M units) and Hungary (0.9M units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Hungary (+27.3%), Turkey (+18.8%), Mexico (+5.0%), France (+4.0%) and Malaysia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +27.3% from 2012-2022. Brazil and Poland experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Italy (-2.3%), Germany (-2.4%) and Slovakia (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. China (+7.8 p.p.), Turkey (+3.1 p.p.) and Mexico (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Germany, Italy and Slovakia saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -2.3% and -5.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest liquid supply meter supplying countries worldwide were China ($281M), Germany ($181M) and Mexico ($156M), together comprising 44% of global exports. France, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, Brazil, Hungary and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.
