Japan, Pakistan, Germany, Nigeria, Russia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Brazil, France and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.

In value terms, the United States ($3.5B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($1.7B). It was followed by Brazil.

The United States (9.8K tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by China (7.2%), Germany (5.6%) and France (5%). India (2.3K tons), Italy (2.1K tons), Thailand (1.7K tons), the Czech Republic (1.3K tons), Mexico (1.2K tons), the UK (1.1K tons), Austria (1K tons) and South Korea (1K tons) held a little share of total imports.
Japan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the textile flock and dust and mill neps imports, with a CAGR of +16.4% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Japan ($96M), the United States ($57M) and China ($38M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 42% share of global imports. Germany, India, Italy, France, Thailand, South Korea, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Austria and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.
Among the main importing countries, India, with a CAGR of +7.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices By Country
The average textile flock import price stood at $7,018 per ton in 2022, picking up by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 7.5%. Global import price peaked at $9,286 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($15,026 per ton), while Japan ($4,503 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.0%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports
World Exports of Textile Flock And Dust And Mill Neps
For the third year in a row, the global market recorded growth in overseas shipments of textile flock and dust and mill neps, which increased by 0.4% to 61K tons in 2022. Japan (7.3K tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 12% share, followed by Germany (10%), the UK (10%), China (7.8%), the United States (6.1%), Indonesia (4.8%) and South Korea (4.7%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to textile flock exports from Thailand stood at +40.2%. At the same time, Indonesia (+51.8%), South Korea (+7.3%), China (+6.7%) and the UK (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, the largest textile flock supplying countries worldwide were Japan ($68M), Thailand ($45M) and the United States ($44M), together accounting for 46% of global exports.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +33.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices By Country
In 2022, the average textile flock export price amounted to $5,617 per ton, dropping by -12.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 14%. The global export price peaked at $8,502 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($11,766 per ton), while Indonesia ($1,920 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
