In 2022, Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), distantly followed by China (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), South Korea (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Japan (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the key exporters of polystyrene, together achieving X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Japan (with a CAGR of X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, polystyrene imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
China represented the key importer of polystyrene in Asia-Pacific, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (X%) and Indonesia (X%). China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of polystyrene.
