Lentil Production in Eastern Europe

In 2023, the average yield of lentils in Eastern Europe shrank modestly to X tons per ha, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the lentil yield reached the peak level at X tons per ha in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2023. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked in 2023 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports decreased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports. Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
Romania, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the import price in Eastern Europe amounted to $X per ton, which is down by X% against the previous year. Import price indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, lentil import price increased by X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by X%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2022, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
