For the third consecutive year, MENA recorded growth in supplies from abroad of cassava, which increased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cassava imports dropped slightly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports showed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the main importer of cassava in MENA, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons), together making up a X% share of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to cassava imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at X%. At the same time, Qatar (X%), Oman (X%), Bahrain (X%) and Kuwait (X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
