In general, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nitrogenous fertilizer exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2022, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkmenistan represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (X%).

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to nitrogenous fertilizer exports from Turkmenistan stood at X%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Central Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Turkmenistan (X p.p.) and Uzbekistan (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Kazakhstan (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2022, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, nitrogenous fertilizer imports declined markedly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

Kazakhstan was the largest importer of nitrogenous fertilizers (mineral or chemical) in Central Asia, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total imports in 2023.
