In value terms, bentonite exports dropped sharply to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2022, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

China prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. South Korea (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to bentonite exports from China stood at X%. At the same time, South Korea (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, South Korea emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest bentonite supplier in Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China totaled X%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the export price in Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2022, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while China amounted to $X per ton.

In 2023, purchases abroad of bentonite decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, bentonite imports declined remarkably to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of bentonite, namely South Korea, China and Japan, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), achieving an X% share of total imports. Hong Kong SAR (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by China (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Japan ($X), China ($X) and South Korea ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023, with a combined X% share of total imports. Taiwan (Chinese) and Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2023, which is down by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2023, it increased at an average annual rate of X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2022 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton), while South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
