From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for Mexico (with a CAGR of X%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average leek yield totaled X tons per ha in 2023, leveling off at 2022 figures. In general, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the leek yield reached the peak level at X tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the yield failed to regain momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2023, the harvested area of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables in Latin America and the Caribbean expanded to X ha, surging by X% against 2022 figures. In 2023, shipments abroad of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2022, and then contracted in the following year.

In value terms, leek exports surged to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. The Dominican Republic (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a X% share, followed by Guatemala (X%).

Mexico experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables. At the same time, the Dominican Republic (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Dominican Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Antigua and Barbuda (X tons) and Grenada (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to leek imports into Haiti stood at X%. At the same time, Honduras (X%), Grenada (X%), Antigua and Barbuda (X%), Jamaica (X%) and Aruba (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Honduras emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, El Salvador (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period.
