In value terms, cotton yarn exports contracted markedly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total exports. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cotton yarn exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. Egypt (X%) and Syrian Arab Republic (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Turkey increased by X percentage points.

In 2023, purchases abroad of cotton yarn decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2023: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Turkey represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. Iran (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Israel (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Morocco (X%), Iran (X%) and Algeria (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Tunisia and Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Israel (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (X p.p.) and Morocco (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2023, the share of Israel (X p.p.) and Egypt (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
